As a sincere, still-in-process human being who also serves as a pastor, I totally get where you are coming from. Saying things like that to people, while usually well-intentioned, are neither helpful nor comforting...or true, IMHO. I don't believe God specifically chose you for lupus (or lupus for you). "Time and chance happen to us all" writes the author of Ecclesiastes... I think life in this broken world brings with it risk of disease, accident, broken relationships, and more. It's reality...and I believe God works and walks with us through these things. Short answer to a very long conversation. The book "God Cant" addresses this head on. Thanks for writing this article.
